The Plaza Restaurant

The Plaza Restaurant

The Plaza Restaurant has been serving patrons since 1972. We strive to give our guests the best dining experience to make them feel at home. Whether you’re looking for a comfortable place to eat with family and friends or you’re on the move to get to your next stop, the Plaza will take good care of you.

The Plaza is home to America’s Worst (Best) Apple Pie. It all began back in 1989 when Ed Yasechko Sr. first advertised “America’s Worst Apple Pie” on billboards along I-80. He kicked off the promotion with a pie-baking contest at the restaurant awarding the winning contestant their recipe to be used in our daily operation. Anne Cooper’s recipe has been used at The Plaza Restaurant since March 1989. Her recipe took the restaurant’s apple pie from the America’s worst to America’s best. For years Betty Best baked the pies. She says the recipe is one thing, the making and baking is another. Our pie is so famous that CBS aired a show on their “Sunday Morning Show” and on “60 Minutes.” Anne’s recipe and Betty’s style have been passed on to our current baker, Deb King. So our apple pie is “America’s Best” and we can now say it is also, “King!”
